Citizens Bank, The Phillies welcome the Atlanta Braves to town tonight for the start of a three-game series that would probably have been much larger than a month or two ago than it is now. The Braves have been sitting around eight straight games in the AL East for much of the second half and is now 7.5 games behind feel.
However, the Phillies have three games in hand. Moreover, in the last 10 games, the Phillies have struggled a bit (at least by his standards) going 6-4, but the Braves have failed to capitalize going 5-5. So anything less than a sweep here by the Atlanta Braves can basically kiss any hope that may still have had to win the AL East goodbye.
Unfortunately for Atlanta, the Phillies have not been swept in a three-game series throughout the year and will send Cliff Lee tonight at the hill. Lee is an incredible August in which only allowed one run in 42 innings. His record was 5-0 with a 0.21 ERA. He was opposed by Derek Lowe, who has struggled this season with a 9-12 record and an ERA of 4.52. That said, Lowe has been better in its three most recent outings and has been generally good against the Phillies this year.
