Circuseshurtanimals Dan Carron, In an effort to expose the cruel punishment bestowed on circus animals, a Clarkston native and PETA staffer has changed his name to “” The man formerly known as Dan Carron can be seen brandishing a Virginia driver’s license bearing his new name.

“Circuses go to great lengths to conceal the fact that elephants, tigers, and other animals forced to perform in their shows suffer a lifetime of abuse,” he said via PETA press release. “Whenever anyone asks for or reads my name, they’ll learn the truth—that when animals used by the circus aren’t locked away in barren cages or dark, cramped trailers, they’re violently forced to perform grueling and painful tricks.”

Carron decided to officially change his name after witnessing circus trainers using bull hooks, which PETA describes as heavy steel-hooked rods resembling fireplace pokers, to intimidate elephants.

PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is the largest animal rights organization in the world, according to its website which also claims the group has more than three million members.
