Christmas Tree Thief Caught By Trail Of Pine Needles
December 19, 2011 by staff
John Dacre was devastated to find his farm in Spenborough ransacked and his pine trees, holly wreaths and festive decorations snatched using his own trolleys, the Spenborough Guardian reported.
But the 65-year-old spotted a long line of green spikes leading away from the farm, and with the help of police officers he followed the trail for a half a mile to a garden where the festive stash was being hidden.
“The funny thing is that they were supposed to be ‘low needle drop’ trees which don’t shed so easily,” he said. “But thankfully they dropped enough for us to follow.”
A police spokesman said, “The festive foliage led officers to a house where the stolen trees were found and recovered. As an extra present, officers also found a cannabis farm at the address.”
A 17 year old was arrested on suspicion of burglary and cultivating cannabis and was bailed pending further enquiries.
