Christmas Light Display

Christmas Light Display, If you like to tour Christmas light displays make sure to check out one Albuquerque Westside home. nDavid Plourde has created a fantastic light display near Universe and Irving that probably leaves the power company smiling. There is no doubt visitors leave smiling. “I’ve had people from Las Cruces, Santa Fe come down here just to see the lights,” he said.
The tradition started in Riverside, Calif. where the Plourde family lived before moving to New Mexico in 2005. “I put up Christmas lights and the wife came out and said I want more lights. I said okay I’ll give you more lights,” he said. He was applauded for the display and encouraged to continue the tradition.
“15 people, they all started clapping and that was the start of my motivation,” Plourde said.
The display only grew larger in New Mexico.
This year, it took Plourde 17 days to set up his lights.
His granddaughters are happy to have the coolest house around.
“It’s wonderful,” Stefanie Gomez said. “All my friends at school are like yes! I love your lights.”
The lights make a lot of people happy, Plourde especially.
“I know my papa doesn’t do it for awards or anything,” Jasmine Gomez said. “But he has a smile on his face everyday.” Plourde said he did win his neighborhood’s Griswold Award for the display, but he said it all about the spirit of giving.
“It’s for you. Oh God bless you,” he said to one family. “I’ve had so many families stop by and give me hugs, give me cookies. It brings tears to my eyes because I’m doing my job I’m giving to them and that’s the only thing now being retired I can give to the people.”
