Christina Scavo Pictures, When Mike Holmgren joined the Browns as president a year ago, he and Coach Eric Mangini had philosophical differences in the schemes and styles. But Holmgren recalled his 17 years on the bench and back Mangini for the 2010 season because he felt Mangini needs more than a year to prove him. Mangini was fired Monday morning after a meeting with Holmgren. Holmgren met with the media shortly after 13 pm and is excluded as a candidate for coaching “now.” Holmgren also said he began coaching search Monday by sending requests to interview team in the NFL, but he refused to nominate candidates.
Adam Schefter ESPN reported the Browns filed a request for an interview at the New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell. Holmgren said he has not talked to ESPNanlyst Jon Gruden and former Carolina Panthers coach John Fox.
Holmgren stressed the importance of the rental right. “It’s huge,” said Holmgren. “I do not want to do that again. I think the story if you look at the teams that did not do much, they were successful.”
Emphasizing a team-first, Leslie Frazier took as head coach of Minnesota and has promised a thorough review of the list, the staff and the speed of both sides of the ball for the return of the Vikings in the playoffs. The day he reached a contract with the organization to remove the interim label from his title, Frazier said he believes “it’s only a matter of time” before the championship franchise wins the private Super Bowl.
Frazier took over Nov. 22 when Brad Childress was fired, and the Vikings 3-3 in the 51-year-old after starting 3-7. “I think we will be able to revisit the past six weeks and say, ‘You know what, that was the beginning of something special,” Frazier said Monday during his introductory news conference at Winter Park. One of the first orders of business for Frazier is to help develop a plan with the personnel department for the largest item of the sport. Quarterback Brett Favre is finally retiring and Frazier said he did not call the 41 years to ask for another season under “any circumstances.”
Employment Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio is safe for another year. His role as the defensive play calling is more, though. Team owner Wayne Weaver spoke with about 10 players Monday then had a lengthy meeting with Del Rio. Del Rio explained what happened this season and has submitted a plan to fix things. Weaver responded by asking Del Rio to relinquish control of the defense.
Weaver also said Del Rio needs to make the playoffs in 2011 to keep his job. “If we are not in the playoffs, it’s pretty clear that we will have a different coach,” said Weaver. Tight end Marced Lewis said that players are taking up the challenge Weaver. “Pressure bursts pipes or is diamonds,” Lewis said. “We will make diamonds. We’re heading in the right direction. We almost made the playoffs this year. We know how close we are. We know we can. ”
Two massage therapists continued Brett Favre on Monday, saying they lost their part-time job with the Jets in New York after complaining of sexually suggestive text messages veteran quarterback.
Claiming they were victims of sexual harassment and discrimination in employment, Scavo and Christina Shannon O’Toole are unspecified damages for Favre, the Jets and a coordinator of massage jets.
While women do not say they have received messages directly from Favre, he spoke Scavo in a message proposing a meeting with her and a third unidentified massage therapist, said the trial. “Kinda lonesome tonight,” he added in a subsequent message to the masseuse third, the trial said. “I think I have bad intentions.”
The lawsuit comes five days after the NFL fined $ 50,000 Favre not being candid in an investigation into allegations that he sent obscene text messages and photos to the former Jets Host Jenn Sterger Thurs when they both worked for the team in 2008.
