Chris Mcalister New Orleans Saints, New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Tuesday that the club has signed free-agent cornerback Marcus McCauley and waived cornerback Chris McAlister. The Saints also placed linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar on injured reserve.
McCauley, 6 feet 1, 203 pounds, was a third-round draft pick (72nd overall) of the Minnesota Vikings in 2007. He has played in 27 career regular-season games — all but one of them with the Vikings — with 10 starts and has 66 tackles, 10 passes defensed and five tackles on special teams.
McCauley, 26, also has played in one postseason game, making one tackle on special teams. He was waived by the Vikings before the start of the season and has had stints with the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing in one game for Detroit.
McAlister was signed by the Saints as a free agent Nov. 18 and played in two games with the club, making four tackles with a forced fumble that he also recovered in overtime Sunday against the Redskins. The 11-year veteran spent his previous 10 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
Dunbar, a second-year player, has played in nine games this season with three starts, making 16 tackles on defense and 12 stops on special teams. He suffered a hamstring injury at Washington.
