China Toddler Hit-and-Run, A child who was hit twice by trucks and then ignored by passers-by in a busy market street died on Friday of the week after the accident and after days of bitter awareness of the moral decline in China.
The Guangzhou Military District General Hospital, said the girl 2 years old, Wang Yue, died of organ failure and brain. “His injuries were too severe and the treatment had no effect,” intensive care unit Lei’s director told reporters.
The plight of the child, nicknamed Yue Yuen came to symbolize what many Chinese see as a decline in public morals, after decades of strong economic growth and rising prosperity.
Horrifying CCTV video of the accident last Thursday, televised and published on the Internet, Yue Yuen was toddling along the street of the hardware market in the southern city of Foshan. A van of the strike, slows down and then back to the driving wheel rolling around on the child. For the next seven minutes, while lying to the accumulation of blood, 18 people from walking or cycling and other attacks go before a scrap collector its infancy until the child’s mother runs into the street in search of her .
State media said the girl’s father was tending the store of the family of hardware at the time of the accident and his mother was busy hanging clothes. They did not realize he had wandered off.
Yue Yuen’s death touched another round of handshakes on society and personal responsibility. Many of the comments posted on social media sites, said “we are all pedestrians.”
Communist Party chief of the rich province of Guangdong, Wang Yang, called the accident “a wake-up call for everybody.”
Li Xiangping, a religion professor at Huadong University, said in a Twitter-like service that is too easy to blame others. “What prompted after a phenomenon so sad? Officials? Rich? Or is our coldness?” Said Li Sina Corp. ‘s Weibo.
Police arrested the drivers of both trucks on suspicion of causing an accident, but have not said what they would face formal charges, and whether the killing would be among them, now that the girl is dead.
People who could see in the video that goes through the Yue Yuen have reported being harassed wounded to ignore it. The Southern Metropolis Daily respected newspaper quoted a man identified only as a hardware merchant and Mr. Chen said he had been receiving prank calls from someone chose him as the 16 bystander. He said he had not realized the child.
Some experts said the lack of willingness to help others is a result of urbanization, such as migrants flock to the cities and create neighborhoods of strangers.
“Rapid urbanization affects not only China and Guangzhou, but anywhere in the world where there is a lot of tall buildings, where high population density, then the relationship with neighbors, and others affected is” said Yao Yue, a psychologist and director of the hotline for people in situations of Beijing.
