Child Abduction Emergency | light of the recent arrests of 10 American missionaries in Haiti, Angelina Jolie is urging others not to follow in their steps, and to resist the urge to adopt, at least for now.

In an interview with CNN, Jolie used her role as a goodwill ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to make sure her point was brought across.

“For somebody who is an adoptive parent, I understand the urge to assist in that way. But now is not the time, an emergency is not the time for new adoptions in any way,” she said.

According to the London Telegraph, Jolie said that aid agencies were working to keep families together and reunite those torn apart by the January 12 earthquake by setting up a register of survivors.

Her remarks come as 10 American missionaries remain jailed in Haiti for trying to bus 33 children across the border to the Dominican Republic last month to be housed in an orphanage. The 10 have been charged with child abduction and criminal conspiracy.

When asked if she would consider adopting again, Jolie also said she would always be open to children from all over the world.

Jolie and partner Brad Pitt have three biological children and three adopted children from Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam.
