Chevy Sonic Commercial Song

Chevy Sonic Commercial Song, The reigning kings of viral music video are back once again. This time, you may have caught some of their act during the Super Bowl. There was a commercial for the new Chevrolet Sonic, during which they boasted it being used to perform a music video. This is that video. OK Go have never shied away from creating innovative videos, and this video for their single “Needing/Getting” is no exception.

In the video, the Sonic was rigged with retractable pneumatic arms set up to play the instruments. Four months of preparation, four days of filming (including stunt driving lessons for lead singer Damian Kulash). In the video, there are over 1000 instruments set up along a short course, all set up with precision to play the tune while Damian sings.

I have their album, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, and the song takes on new form in this auto-acoustic fashion. Kind of how “This Too Shall Pass” was much better when performed with a live marching band, or with a Rube Goldberg device.

Whether or not this helps sell the Chevy Sonic is yet to be determined, and obviously that part of the collaboration is some serious advertising, because like most OK Go videos it’ll be up to millions of hits by the weekend. Regardless, the logistics behind creating a musical test track to not only be played, but played correctly is very impressive. My virtual hat off to both Chevy and OK Go for once again turning a mediocre song into an internet sensation.
