Cheryl Burke, Two-time Dancing with the Stars champion Cheryl Burke, 26, recounts her life in a new book dance lessons.

And it really tells all, a family friend repeatedly assaulted including that she when she was a child.

The dancer aggressor was a factor in retirement that has been approved and appreciated in Burke’s Bay Area Community. He came to pick her up at school and do odd jobs around her house. Burke’s parents split when she was a baby. The assaults started when she was 5, reports People.com.

“They are not secret. There is no shame,” said Burke.

After the offender has been accused of targeting other children, Burke acknowledged her own abuse and continued to testify against him, helping to send him to prison for nearly two decades.

“I felt guilty for wanting her love and affection,” said Burke. Speaking in court against him was “the hardest thing I ever did … I saw her face and lawyers I posed these questions and I told myself, ‘what am I doing? Did he even do anything wrong? ”

As any fan of “Dancing with the Stars” knows, Cheryl Burke exudes confidence when she waltzes, quickly off or does the tango in front of millions.

But for the two-time “DWTS” champ, life has not always been so sweet: As a child, a family friend has repeatedly assaulted Burke – and testified against him before a court, assist him in jail for nearly two decades.

“I am my history,” said Burke, 26, who open the molestation – and other struggles, including physical abuse by two old friends – in her new book “Dancing” (co-written by PEOPLE senior writer Monica Rizzo). “They are not secret. There is no shame.”

Now, with season 12 of “DWTS” from Mars, Burke is ready to tell her story. “If I can help one person,” she said, “For me it’s all that matters. “
