CC Sabathia On Dl

August 13, 2012 by

CC Sabathia On Dl, CC Sabathia believes he should be standing on the pitcher’s mound Monday night. Against the team with the best record in the American League, in a series that could serve as an October preview, the Yankees’ ace remains convinced he could have pushed through the inflammation in his left elbow. And he spent plenty of time trying to convince manager Joe Girardi and general manager Brian Cashman.

“I felt like I stated a good case,” Sabathia said today, in his first comments since landing on the disabled list. “Cash wasn’t having it though.”

So, Sabathia will only watch as the Rangers begin a four-game series at Yankee Stadium Monday, with the teams tied for the American League lead in victories at 67 each. When Yankees trade deadline target Ryan Dempster takes the mound, he will not be opposed by Sabathia, but by rookie right-hander David Phelps.

“I didn’t want to go on the DL,” Sabathia said before the Yankees’ rally fell short in a 10-7 loss to the Blue Jays. “This was not my decision. But I understand it.” Sabathia intends to return as soon as he’s eligible to come off the disabled list — Aug. 24 at Cleveland.
