Cayman Islands Earthquake:Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (AHN) – The Cayman Islands was rocked by a 5.8 earthquake Tuesday morning. According to reports the temblor only lasted a few seconds and originated near Grand Cayman.
Early reports say the quake occurred just six miles below the surface of the earth and hit a little after 9:20 a.m. Telephone lines appear to have been affected throughout the region’s islands.
Tuesday’s quake comes a week after Haiti suffered a devastating 7.0 earthquake. The last earthquake to hit the Caymans was in December 2004.
The Cayman Islands are located just south of Cuba.
