Carmelo Anthony Sister

December 23, 2010 by staff

Carmelo Anthony Sister, (AP) – Manu Ginobili (FSY) completed the Denver Nuggets for the second time in a week. There was no doubt about it this time.BOX SCORE: Spurs 109, Nuggets 103 Ginobili scored 22 points and buried the fire green three pointer at the end of the fourth, and the San Antonio Spurs beat Denver – playing without All-Star Carmelo Anthony (FSY) after the death of his sister – 109-103 Wednesday night for their 10th straight win.

The Nuggets said Anthony will be back after Christmas. Their next game is Saturday at Oklahoma City.

The victory for the Spurs came six days after Ginobili has secured a victory in Denver, taking a load of 0.3 seconds over Anthony, who thought he scored the winning shot on a hard drive to the basket.

Gary Neal (FSY) also had 22 points for the Spurs, who dominated the Nuggets 29-14 in the fourth quarter; Denver had only two field goals over the last 5 minutes.

“It was huge fourth quarter,” Ginobili said. “I’m still a bit shocked by how we won.”

The Spurs hit their second two-digit series already won this season and improved their NBA-best record 25-3. It ranks among the 11 best starts to a season in NBA history.

Ty Lawson (FSY) and JR Smith (FSY) led the Nuggets with 22 points each, and Kenyon Martin (FSY) has played 17 minutes in his debut season after missing the first 26 games while recovering from surgery knee.

The Nuggets have been slow to adapt to the zone defense of San Antonio in the fourth, coach Gregg Popovich implemented after Denver took the lead 89-90 at the end of the third, mainly thanks to five Denver three points in the quarter.

Smith, making his first start in three seasons in place of Anthony, was 4 of 5 beyond the arc in the third quarter alone and scored 16 points in the quarter.

“I feel bad because I could not help my team as much as I should cons of the situation area,” George Karl said Nuggets coach. “I think if we took pictures at the beginning they went away from him. We have not had much cohesion against their attack zone.”

Anthony’s sister, Michelle Anthony, died of a preexisting medical condition Tuesday at Baltimore. She has four children.

Anthony has traveled with the Nuggets in San Antonio, but left Thursday morning after learning of the death of a family member.

“This brings us back to earth,” Karl said before the game. “Basketball is not the most important thing.”

Richard Jefferson (FSY) scored 16 points and rookie Tiago Splitter (FSY) had 12 points and nine rebounds in his game even more significant with the Spurs.

Ginobili also hit the winning goal in Denver, and it was another blow in it. He pulled on a fast break with 2:48 left to bring down his fourth three-point, giving the Spurs the lead for good.

But Neal – a 26 year old rookie who is fast becoming another little find for the Spurs – was equally crucial. He scored 10 in the fourth and took his second consecutive game with 20 points after scoring 22 on Monday in a victory over Phoenix.

Neal gets more time in court because of a toe injury to backup Spurs guard George Hill (FSY), which is expected to miss at least several more games.

“In training camp I felt like a rookie. It was as if the game was going 100 miles per hour, but now it is slow,” said Neal. “I feel like I belong there low and the game is manageable for me.”

Martin had eight points on his return to the Nuggets’ lineup, four of his five shots.

Matt Bonner (FSY) scored 13 points and Tony Parker (FSY) had 11 for the Spurs.

The 26-year-old Anthony has recently been hampered by a strained right elbow, sitting on the last two days of practice. It has also been the subject of trade rumors since he rejected offers of the team three years and $ 65 million contract extension last summer. Anthony is averaging 24 points and 8.3 rebounds this season.
