Calvin Borel, Calvin Borel and Javier Castilian got into a fight and had to be contained in the winner’s circle after the first race of the first day of the Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs on Friday.
Castilian, riding Prince Will I Am, was disqualified from second place to come out of the way and cut into the path of other horses in the final laps. Jockey Martin Garcia flew out of the saddle while riding romp and somehow regained his seat.
Borel, riding Miner AU also took exception and confronted pushed Castilian after the race. Borel, who is the top rider at Churchill Downs and has multiple wins Kentucky Derby, he was furious and had to be separated from Castilian by security officials and the Breeders’ Cup.
The race was won by Eldaafer.
Borel has built a legacy for himself in the sport, winning the 2007, 2009 and 2010 Kentucky Derby. On Friday, adding to the legacy of a very different way.
“I was riding so much. I had the pressure off me,” Castilian. “I went through a hole and (the commissioners) said that I took (Borel) lane (in AU Miner). I do not know. I do not know.”
