California 200, “Spooky” California 200 C3ash (VIDEO) Eight people were killed, 12 1njured after a truck race off-road ended in tragedy as one of the truck apparently lost control and went directly to the spectators gathered to watch the event.

The pilot reportedly was flying a small hill at an awkward angle on a jump known as “the Rockpile in the dry bed of Lake soaked hotspot road race on Saturday, plowing into the spectators, who tried to run when they realized the truck was headed for its barrier weak.

According to a Fox News report, the driver was unhurt, but fled the scene when the wrath of the crowd approached him, as told by eyewitnesses. His name was not released.

The race had begun when the accident occurred. The injured were taken to Loma Linda University or medical centers in Santa Maria, ESPN reports.

The race was promoted by MDR Productions of South El Monte and its website says 87 drivers have registered for the race, which consists of four laps of 50 miles.

The California Highway Patrol has taken the incident under investigation, as the track conditions might be considered ‘unsafe’ in some areas.
