Bus Driver, Student Killed In School Bus Crash, A school bus driver and one student died this morning in an accident on the city’s Southeastside. Two people were critically injured.

The accident occurred about 7:40 a.m. in the 900 block of South Emerson Avenue near English Avenue, two miles away from Lighthouse Charter School.

Rita Burris, a spokeswoman for the Indianapolis Fire District, said that two students were critically injured and 10 sustained non life-threatening injuries. Students were brought to the Wishard Memorial Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children. The rest of the students will be released to their parents.

The age and gender of the student and the driver who died were not immediately known. About 50 children were on the bus, ranging in age from 5 to 16, Burris said.
