Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day:As every one of you will know, today is January 25th. But what hardly any of you will know is that today, is actually the 10th Annual Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. According to abclocal.go.com, Bubble Wrap cushioning turns 50 today.
So to celebrate Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day, we will give you a brief history on the iconic brand well known for protecting products, as well as providing fun and a way of releasing stress for millions of people from all over the world every day.
The invention of Bubble Wrap cushioning, led to the founding of Sealed Air, who are the makers of Bubble Wrap cushioning, back in 1960. Today, Sealed Air operates in 52 countries and makes enough of the Bubble Wrap, to stretch to the moon and back.
Originally, Inventors Marc Chavannes and A1 Fielding developed a plastic they had hoped to market as textured wallpaper. But when that idea didn’t take off, the investors had some success at marketing the product as a greenhouse insulator.
Legend has it that it wasn’t until Chavannes was on a plane over Newark Airport, that he had the “eureka” moment. Chavannes noticed that the clouds appeared to cushion the plane, and it was at that moment, he realized how Bubble Wrap could be used.
