Bruegger’s Bagels, Bruegger Bagels, with 300 locations throughout the United States, will celebrate National Bagel day by offering three free bagels to its guests. (One coupon is needed and can be accessed by “sympathy” at Bruegger’s Facebook page.)
Bagel with National Day (celebrated nationwide on February 9), the month also marks the anniversary Bruegger. In February 1983 it opened its first bakery in Troy, New York, offering fresh-baked bagels all day. To draw attention to the month – and delicious, freshly baked bagels – Bruegger requested more than 150,000 fans bagel, e-mail and Facebook, to name their favorite bagel combinations and where they like to eat the perfect freshly baked fun. Bagel fans claiming to offer their opinions (and get a coupon!) – Nearly 40,000 fans bagel-respondents and Facebook page Bruegger added thousands of fans. The survey results are below.
In the category of favorite bagel flavor, for the second consecutive year, all the bagel was the winner ahead of the Parmesan Asiago bagel with a small margin. Stats:
Everything Bagel: 36.3 percent of respondents chose this as their favorite flavor.
Asiago Parmesan: 35.6 percent, as cheesy.
Cinnamon Raisin: 23.5 percent of respondents as fruity.
Cinnamon sugar: 21.7 per cent, as it is sweet.
Plain: 20.9 percent of respondents are purists.
Sesame: 19.9 percent of respondents liked bagels on the side of seedy.
In the category of favorite bagel topping, the winners are:
Cream Cheese Regular: 24.6 percent, as it is simple.
Light cream cheese: 18.9 percent keep it light.
Cheese with honey walnut cream: 16.4 percent were walnuts honey.
Butter: 15.5 percent want to “stick” to the base.
Veggie Garden: 12.8 per cent, like eating vegetables.
This year, Bruegger also asked customers where they most enjoy their treats. Cycle up:
Back at the office: 31.8 percent
At home: 21.3 percent
At Bruegger, with friends or family: 13.8 percent and 12.9 percent respectively.
In the car during my commute: 11.9 percent
Taking advantage of Wi-Fi from Bruegger: 8.3 percent

In 2010, Bruegger has sold 89 million bagels. Topping all those bagels were more than 2.6 million pounds of cream cheese. Nationally, Americans consume about 3 billion bagels each year, an average of about 11 per person, according to The New York Times. Bruegger is also credited with creating the world’s largest bagel on August 27, 2004. The oversized bagel weighed 868 pounds and 1.100 pounds of dough necessary, 900 gallons of water and a cooking time of 10 hours.
