Breaking Dawn – Part 1 30 Million, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 hit theaters at midnight and is expected to give a much needed boost to the domestic box office, which hasn’t seen a $100 million or more opening since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Breaking Dawn has already made over $30 million in midnight screenings.

The Wrap reports that the film made $30.2 million, playing on 3,521 screens. That’s a huge number, but The Deathly Hallows did better, making $43.5 million in 3,800 theaters. The Deathly Hallows also had a surcharge for the 3D glasses, which also helped to boost its revenues.

Compared to the previous Twilight films, it just about matched Eclipse, which also made around $30 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Two years ago, New Moon earned $26.3 million at midnight screenings.
