Botched Cosmetic Surgery, A woman died in Las Vegas the weekend after cosmetic surgery failed. Police said 42-year-old Elena Caro died in a hospital Saturday after undergoing a procedure to improve the buttock in the business office of a floor tile. Two Colombians, Ruben Matallana-Galvan and his wife Carmen Torres Sanchez were arrested the next day at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas. They were aboard a plane to their country of origin. According to an arrest report, Caro was injected with a “gel-like substance” on her buttocks. The suspects are being held without bail and the coroner’s office must decide on an official cause of death.

Matallana Dario Galvan, and his wife Carmen Torres Sanchez, 47, was arrested at McCarran International Airport before attempting to board a flight to his native Colombia. Both were booked into the Clark County Jail and charged with murder.

Elena Caro went to a medical clinic alley in the 3300 block of East Avenue Charleston, on Saturday morning to get a cosmetic surgery procedure. The victim’s – year daughter Caro returned to pick up about 4 hours after having fallen, but she found an abandoned office and no sign of the patient. Caro said investigators had apparently been transported to a place where East Lake Mead Blvd. North Vista Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later.

Neither Galvan nor his wife are licensed to practice medicine in the U.S., Galvan claiming that only authorized to practice homeopathic procedures in their country of origin. The unlicensed Galvan attempted to perform an “improvement to stop” procedure that involved six injections of silicone for a total of approximately 600 cc on the buttocks of the victim. This procedure is illegal in the U.S., even by surgeons under license. Walking procedure was performed in a shoddy office in the back of a local tiling.

The exact cause of the victim’s death will be released in a few days in the office of the Clark County coroner.
