Mountain police headquarters in Briançon said the bodies were discovered Sunday in a steep corridor to 2,700 meters (8858 feet) a day after the climbers left an Alpine lodge overnight. Police said the group allegedly headed by two cables, one point at 3614 meters (11,857 feet) in the Massif des Ecrins.
The mayor’s office in the village of Villar d’Arêne said a helicopter transported the bodies to the town hall for identification.
