Blade Runner Oscar PistoriusBlade Runner Oscar Pistorius, Double amputee Oscar Pistorius, who led South Africa at the end of the 4×400 meters at the world championships in athletics, has been selected for the final tonight.

The 24-year-old, who ran the first leg of the race yesterday, spoke of his pride after the qualifying heat.

Today, his response was very different: “Pretty gutted,” he wrote on Twitter. “That’s for me … World Champs! God has blessed me! Semifinals in the 400 meters and a national registry in the 4x400m semi! Thanks x all u”

The 4x400m final will be the last race today. Last night also saw the first National Medal 400m hurdles record holder LJ van Zyl of South Africa safe, bagging bronze.

Van Zyl, from lane eight after a poor qualifying time was well outside the upper curve, but struggled over the last 40m. American Angelo Taylor, however, tied along the fence and Van Zyl last sneak home in third in 48.80 seconds. Britain’s David Greene won gold in 48.26, with Javier Culson U.S. taking in 48.44 seconds. Former South African champion Cornel Fredericks, 21, finished fifth in 49.12.

His compatriot Ruben Ramolefi lost at home in 13 Th position in the test 3 000-meter hurdles final. He finished in 8:30.47, more than 19 seconds slower than the national record he set in qualifying earlier in the week. – Reuters and Sapa
