Bishops Sue Immigration Law, In a move that surprised exactly no one, the Justice Department is trying to Alabama extraordinarily harsh illegal immigration laws in the same way they treat of Arizona is being sued.
The Justice Department is asking for an injunction stopping the law came into force on September 1, saying it unconstitutionally measures the powers of federal government’s immigration, the Birmingham News reports.
“To put it in terms that refer to here in Alabama, you can only have one quarterback in a football game,” said U.S. Attorney for northern Alabama. “On immigration, the federal government is the quarterback.” Eric Holder and Janet Napolitano also released statements condemning the law, noting that even Birmingham police chief is opposed to the law.
It was one of two lawsuits filed against the law yesterday, and the other was the bishop in charge of the Episcopal Alabama, Catholic and United Methodist churches.
