Big 12 Football Scores, Found your editorial (August 30) lamenting the likely Texas A & M moved to Southeastern Conference irony, from a newspaper that is almost impossible to follow the news of a sport M &. For years I had to go for a & M football scores online newspapers in Fort Worth, Dallas and Austin, and certainly can not follow the pace of negotiations between the M & A, Big 12, and the SEC Amarillo Globe-News.
Texas A & M could have followed the example of Nebraska and left the Big 12 a year ago, but decided to stay for the same reasons of loyalty and tradition that you cite. And reward the Aggies’ was to be betrayed once again by UT and money and recruits-hogging machine. Undoubtedly, most of M & Texas students and want the Thanksgiving rivalry to continue, regardless of the conference of the two schools are in, however, when he was a financial advantage for the university to play one or two days later for more TV revenue, which had no hesitation in setting aside the “tradition of Thanksgiving.”
The rivalry has survived the demise of the Southwest Conference, and is likely to survive A & M out of the Big 12. If not for the sake of tradition, at least for television revenues.
