Bernie Sanders, The Senate held a key test vote Monday on the tax deal that Obama has struck with the Republicans. Under the agreement, all the tax cuts of the Bush era would be extended for two years, including for the wealthiest Americans. The Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders calls a bad deal and promised to continue efforts to stop it. Sanders, who caucuses with Democrats, said the extension of tax breaks for the wealthy will increase the federal deficit by hundreds of billions of dollars. Under terms of dealing with unemployment benefits for approximately two million people would be extended for 13 months. House Democrats say they do not even consider the agreement without amendments. Liberal Democrats are also angry about proposed changes in federal estate taxes.
