Benjamin Millepied, The star of Black Swan, 30, said she welcomed the birth of her first child with her French-born dancer boyfriend Benjamin Millepied, a choreographer known. The couple, which met on the set of the film that won an award from the Academy, has not released the name of her son. Friends and celebrities were quick to offer congratulations to the couple, which announced their engagement last year.
Ellen DeGeneres, the comedian and TV presenter, led tributes, post to Twitter, the microblogging site: “I am very happy for my dance pupil Natalie Portman and her new baby! Congratulations!” Lindsay Lohan, the troubled Hollywood actress, said: “Congratulations to natalieportman # on your beautiful baby!” People magazine broke the news that gave no details of where or when the baby was born. Portman’s publicist was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
The Israel-born, New York, the actress was raised, who celebrated her birthday last Thursday, announced in December that she was pregnant and planning to marry Millepied, 33, a well-regarded ballet dancer.
In the Oscar acceptance speech in February, paid tribute to “my beautiful love, Benjamin Millepied, who has given me my most important role in my life.”
Won the best actress category for her portrayal of a delusional self-mutilation and a dancer in Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky’s psychological thriller.
Portman, who has maintained a strict vegetarian diet, also won a Bafta award for best actress, though she did not attend because she was pregnant at the time.
Although the couple are known to be protective of their privacy, which recently announced its joy at the prospect of becoming parents for the first time.
“I’ve always kept my private life private, but I will say that I am indescribably happy and I am very grateful to have this experience,” Portman said in announcing her pregnancy.
He also admitted he is likely to do “a lot of mistakes, but I’m open to learn.” Despite her success with the Black Swan, told an interviewer in January that he preferred to stay home.
“It’s the most private sector experience, so I definitely will not be home right now. But it’s also my job,” he said.
In another interview he said later: “My back does not feel much better now, sitting for so long. But all that is really great otherwise.”
She admitted that sticking to tradition at the time of births of babies.
“I think it’s a Jewish thing to be a little superstitious,” he said in April. “You do not do any of the things the baby before the baby arrives.”
In an interview a few weeks ago, Millepied was effusive about his impending fatherhood.
“I’ll have much free time to enjoy this new stage of life I’m really looking forward to,” he said.
“It is the unknown and there is something very exciting when you know that life in a way and can do all sorts of projects and interesting things, but this will be so different and new and I love that idea.”
Portman shot to fame playing the preteen protected from a hired murderer in “The Professional” and appeared in “Star Wars” restart as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia’s mother.
Portman was last in theaters with the romantic comedy “No Strings Attached”, playing an overworked doctor who tries to bring out a “casual” with a “friend”, played by Ashton Kutcher.
