Bcs Poll, Canadian champions rose from the No. 1 ranking they had held since the preseason to No. 8 in the polls after losing big weekend in South Carolina. The first official Bowl Championship Series standings, which will decide which two teams will play for the national title, have not even been released and Alabama is already outside looking in the championship race.
The title race, however, is far from over. In fact, experts warn that you’d better strap on your seatbelt.
“Anyone who wants to write the obituary on the Crimson Tide is certainly premature,” said Jeff Anderson, a resident of California who heads one of six computer ranking systems contained in the BCS formula. “Anyone who thinks Alabama is beside himself at this point is obviously not a back story of BCS.”
Due to the loss of South Carolina, Alabama will need help to reintegrate the national title picture.
“If Alabama wins, I think that all they need to play for a national championship is for there to be one undefeated conference champion out of the Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-10 “said Brad Edwards, ESPN’s resident BCSanlyst (and, incidentally, a graduate of 1994 AU).” If two of these conferences have a championship with a loss, I think a loss to Alabama to finish ahead of Boise State or TCU. “
