Basil Marceaux, at a time when political newcomers use all available tools to get exposure, basil marceaux is decidedly lo-fi – despite the web 1.0 dot-com in its name. as one of the republican candidates for governor in tennessee next midterm elections, mr. marceaux is a curious case. in a recent televised speech aired on wsmv-tv, is hard to say – on the face – whether marceaux is nervous, had recently been beaten on the head and face with a sack of doorknobs of age, or perhaps a little of both. the resulting public address is equal parts horror and amusement.
while much is written about in the coming days marceaux (as it quickly burns its way through a minor internet celebrity famecycle), mainly driven by a workforce spread american boring lols gmos and friends, there something to admire in the man’s apparent charade. it’s more honest to be imposed, however random, in a political process steeped in cynicism and contempt. marceaux seems well-intentioned, if only in his own mind. however, given the abysmally platform giddy – i will remove all state flags goldfinch! – good intentions (which only make sense to him) do not amount to almost nothing.
