‘Barefoot Bandit’ Jailed, Christopher Sorenson, 29, has been arrested in the suspected homicide of his mother, Janet ‘Nene’ Sorensen, 71, of Salinas, according to the Salinas Police Department.

Janet Sorensen was last seen on Dec. 7 at her home on the 1600 block of Atherton Way, police said.

On Tuesday, concerned friends and neighbors contacted the police to conduct a welfare check on her home, police said.

Officers did not find her, but continued to check the home after the next two days and detectives took over the case, police said.

It was discovered her son lived off and on and was seen leaving the home on Dec. 9 in her 2000 Mazda minivan, police said.

Shortly after midnight today, Monterey Police officers found the van near Jack’s Park in Monterey and found Christopher Sorenson asleep in the back, police said.

He was taken to the Salinas Police Department for questioning and the van impounded, police said.

Christopher Sorensen has been booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of homicide, police said.

Christopher Sorensen has been known to frequent the area of California State University, Monterey Bay (old Fort Ord), area beaches and coffee houses in Salinas and Monterey, police said.
