Barbie Real Life Measurements, Hamilton College student made national news Monday when she appeared on the Today Show to talk about the unrealistic proportions of a Barbie doll and its impact on youth.
Galia Slayer created a life size version of the doll Barbie show what it would look like real, standing at six feet tall, with a bust of 39 inches and a waist of 18 inches
It is part of the “Get Real” campaign to raise awareness about eating disorders.
Slayer battled anorexia and said that children are bombarded with images of the body that are unreachable.
“You think of girls walking down a supermarket aisle and you see all these magazines on how to lose weight or to lose five pounds, and so there are so many different media – it’s your parents, your friends, is so many pressures to look a certain way and be a certain way “, said Natalie Morales Slayer. “There is a drive for thinness.”
The maker of Barbie, Mattel says the doll was based on measurements of a real person.
The life-size Barbie first appeared in the Hamilton College in February.
