B.C. Cab Sexual Assaults

B.C. Cab Sexual Assaults, Mounties in Dawson Creek, B.C., say a local taxi company is under investigation for several allegations of sexual assault and forcible confinement.

On Jan. 25, a 13-year-old girl told police she was lured into a taxi and promised a free ride home. Instead, the victim alleges she was locked inside the vehicle by the driver and sexually assaulted. The suspect in the case has yet to be positively identified.

As a result of that investigation, police identified several other victims of similar alleged assaults that had not been reported to police dating back to October 2011.

“We became aware of the first incident very recently and started conducting an investigation in which we learned there are more victims and offences,” said Sgt. Milo MacDonald.

In a separate case, a suspect has been identified and charges of sexual assault and forcible confinement are pending against a 55-year-old man.

Police have executed a search warrant at the offices of Golden Cabs and are in the process of interviewing additional witnesses.

“This is a priority investigation and we are dedicating the resources necessary, along with working with our colleagues in Alberta, including Grand Prairie,” MacDonald said. “We ask the public to call us with any information they may have”.
