Austin Rivers: Austin Rivers & NBA draft,

Austin Rivers: Austin Rivers & NBA draft,, Doc Rivers said last night his only advice to son Austin, a Duke freshman with his eyes on the NBA, was “you’re going to have to make your own mind up.”

At roughly the same time, approximately 150 miles to the north in Durham, Austin Rivers was announcing his intention to hire an agent and leave Duke after one year for the NBA draft.

Though Rivers said there was a challenge in determining just exactly where his son would go in the draft, it obviously wasn’t too difficult. Current estimates have Austin, a scoring guard who also can play the point, going somewhere between the 12th and 20th picks.

“I don’t know if people tell me the truth or not,” the coach said before the Celtics [team stats]’ 102-95 win against the Bobcats. “They usually don’t in things that come with the draft. I don’t know if there’s an advantage. It should be. People keep it close when it’s draft time, and especially in his case. Teams that want him don’t want to give up their hand.”
