Armed Forces Day, Saturday is Armed Forces Day with the slogan “United in strength.” The idea of?? President Harry S. Truman, who wanted to establish a single holiday in which Americans could meet members of service and honor to serve the United States, headed the party.
Until the creation of the Armed Forces Day was announced on August 31, 1949, branches of the armed forces held their separate vacations. The Marine Corps League Marine Corps maintains the day, but it is also compatible with the Day of the Armed Forces. This Armed Forces Day unified also coincided with the unification of the military services in one department – the Department of Defense, according to the Department of Defense.
Truman Presidential Proclamation on February 27, 1950, said:
“Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20, 1950, marks the first combined demonstration by the team of U.S. defense of its progress, under the Homeland Security Act, to achieve the goal of being ready for any eventuality.’s the first parade of preparedness by the unified forces of our land, sea and air defense. ”
The foundation was described by the Department of Defense as an “educational program for the civilian population” in order to raise awareness about the military.
