Another ‘Idol’ Finalist Gets The Boot, After having two bay area residents as American Idol finalists, now there are none. Tampa resident Shannon Magrane, 16, was voted off Thursday, just one week after Jeremy Rosado of Valrico was eliminated. The judges praised Shannon, a sophomore at Blake High School, for her rendition of One Sweet Day, a Mariah Carey and Boys II Men ballad, but it was the second week she landed near the bottom.

“It feels so good standing on this stage,” she said after the judges refused to save her. She was one short of making the Top 10 finalists, who get to go on tour. The surprise was that anybody was booted at all. On the show Wednesday, Jermaine Jones was shown the door — not for his singing, but because of four active warrants on him. The buzz was that maybe Jones would count as the elimination for the week.

Beautiful day to close spring break Sure, there’s the weekend. But today really is the last day of spring break for Hillsborough County public school students. It’ll be mostly sunny with a high of 83 today, according to Bay News 9. And if you’re spending it at the beach, the water will warm to 72. The first day back Monday does have some good news for students, if not for parents: It’s an early-release day.
