New records are part of the 2011 Guinness’ Gamer’s Edition, which aims to put an “official stamp on many of the amazing applications and sales stories have made headlines over the past four years,” he said in a statement.
Apple came out the big winner with four victories. The iPhone 4 was called “portable system the fastest selling game”, while the App Store was chosen as the largest gaming download store, the market for popular applications and launch the largest line-up of any gaming system.
“The launch of the iPhone has not only changed the mobile industry, but the gaming world too,” said Guinness World Records game publisher. “With the endless selection application for Store and intuitive device, Apple has created a huge new space for itself in the casual game genre.”
Angry Bird was named, as expected, the top paid for the application of game store in most countries. Other games mentioned in the Guinness hat tip include Plants vs. Zombies (fastest selling iPhone / iPod strategy game) and the series of Tap Tap Revenge (iPhone most popular game series).
