Andy Irons, Andy Irons who was 32 years old, and three times ASP World Surfing Champion died Tuesday. The surfing legend and native of the Hawaiian island of Kauai had planned to attend this week Rip Curl Pro Search event in Puerto Rico, the ninth stage of Tour 2010 ASP World Surfing, but decided to retire.
Although the house en route to Hawaii, Irons apparently died during a stopover in Dallas. No cause of death has been officially published.
Irons had a bee in the most prestigious surfing athletes. A world champion in 2002, 2003 and 2004, Irons was at the forefront of competitive surfing and had a famous rivalry with the famous 9-champion Kelly Slater.
Irons leave a wife, Lynda, and his younger brother and former world tour competitor Bruce Irons.
