Amish Horse Drawn Buggy OhioAmish Horse Drawn Buggy Ohio, Police in Ohio said Tuesday the death of an Amish teen who was shot as she rode in a horse-drawn buggy was an accident, after it was initially ruled a homicide.

Holmes County Sheriff Timothy Zimmerly told ABC News that an Amish man admitted to firing his muzzleloader rifle into the air prior to cleaning it Thursday, about a mile and a half from where 15-year-old Rachel Yoder’s buggy passed.

A medical examiner had ruled earlier Tuesday that Yoder’s death was a homicide before the man came forward.

Yoder was struck in the head as she returned home from a Christmas party. Her brother found her on the ground near their Fredericksburg home, in eastern Ohio, according to the Coshocton Tribune.

She died Friday after being taken off life support.

Zimmerly said the bullet that struck Yoder was “consistent with” those used in the muzzleloader rifle.

No charges have been filed against the man who fired the gun, ABC News reported.
