American Idol March 21

March 23, 2012 by staff

American Idol March 21, ‘American Idol’ was all about Billy Joel as each of the top ten contestants dipped into his songbook to perform one of Joel’s many hits.

Each week one contestant stands out from the pack but this week three ‘Idol’ contestants took tunes from this iconic entertainer and made them their own. I think Billy Joel would be very proud of these three budding artists.

Colton Dixon returned to the comfort of his piano this evening with his rendition of “Piano Man”. I have liked this quiet young man from the beginning but I have to admit I have not been a huge fan, until tonight.

As I sat and watched Dixon perform I forgot I was watching ‘American Idol’, I was simply enjoying listening to him sing. I was temporarily caught up in the words, melody and voice that is Colton Dixon. This was simply the best performance of the evening.

Jessica Sanchez may be a tiny little thing but her big, big voice is a force to be reckoned with. Sanchez performed Joel’s “Everybody Has a Dream’ with the ease of a veteran entertainer. Perfect pitch and flawless melody come naturally for Sanchez. Each week Sanchez performs better than the week before. ‘American Idol’ judge, Steven Tyler got it right when describing Sanchez’s voice, “When God gave out vocal cords you were standing way out in front of the line”. Yes she is that good.
