Amazon United Kingdom, Roku Jan. 10 said it is making available two of its trailblazing streaming players in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The wireless players – Roku LT and Roku 2 XS – are available for pre-order for 49.99 pounds ($77) and 99.99 pounds ($155), respectively, at

The LT model supports 720p resolution playback, while the XS features motion-controlled casual gaming, supports 1080p video and includes an Ethernet port for a wired Internet connection. It also includes a USB port for playing music, videos and photos off of any USB drive.

Saratoga, Calif.-based Roku helped create the streaming market in 2008 with the launch of a Netflix-branded player. Netflix, of course, went on to establish the subscription video-on-demand market – a business now also featuring Amazon’s LoveFilm in Europe.

Roku features more than 40 channels of content in the U.K. and Ireland, including on-demand movies and programs from Netflix and Sony Pictures-owned Crackle (Crackle is currently not available in Ireland); live and on-demand sports from MLB.TV and Ultimate Fighting Championship organization; music from Classical TV and TuneIn; photos and videos from Facebook and Flickr; news and entertainment from WSJ Live from the Wall Street Journal, and others from around the world – plus casual games like Angry Birds.

“In addition to Netflix, we are launching with a variety of entertainment channels and look forward to expanding our content selection in the same way that we have in the U.S. where we have more than 400 channels today,” said Clive Hudson, VP and GM for Europe at Roku.
