Allentown Gas Explosion

Allentown Gas Explosion, (AFP) – An apparent gas explosion killed one and five people were reported missing Wednesday in the city of Allentown Pennsylvania, emergency services officials said. The explosion destroyed two homes Tuesday night connected to each other, “said Captain George Medero of the Allentown Police Department.

An ensuing fire destroyed at least six other homes and forced the evacuation of at least 500 people in a building nearby for the elderly and disabled. Fire companies from surrounding municipalities gathered to assist emergency response teams and continued to work at the scene Wednesday morning. Joseph Swope, a spokeswoman for UGI Gas Company, said gas in the immediate area has been arrested and an investigation into the cause is underway.
