Aggressive Mosquitoes Invade Vermont, Tropical Storm Irene brought heavy rains to Vermont and large pools of stagnant water creating the perfect breeding ground for a new wave of aggressive mosquitoes only.
The Burlington Free Press reports that mosquitoes carrying the potentially fatal Eastern equine encephalitis, and residents must remain vigilant until well into the fall.
The Health Department is urging residents to wear heavy clothing and insect repellent if they have to be outside.
The disease is particularly virulent for cattle and killed an emu last week on a farm in Brandon, Vermont
The disease affects horses, llamas, alpacas, and people.
