Actor Dicaprio Urged Daniel Day Lewis Lincoln, 56-year-old actor Daniel Day Lewis is now a three time winner of the Oscar for Best Actor following his performance as American President Abraham Lincoln in the 2012 film “Lincoln”.
Prior to this, Lewis had twice won the award for the roles of “Christy Brown” in “My Left Foot” and “Daniel Plainview” in “There Will Be Blood”. However, it took some prodding to get Lewis to take on the role of Lincoln.
As the story goes, DiCaprio was enjoying a quiet dinner at home of the Spielberg family when the star of the film “Titanic” inquired about the upcoming bio-film about Lincoln. It was at that moment that Spielberg confessed that he had failed in his sole attempt to get Lewis to accept the role. DiCaprio is said to not have uttered a response to the venerable director and only listened to him intently.
The following day, Spielberg received a call from Leonardo who passed on to him Lewis’ personal cell phone number with the admonition that Lewis would be anticipating contact from him.
Lewis went on to accept the role and the rest is history with one exception: no one yet knows what DiCaprio told his friend Lewis to get him to reverse course.
