85-mph Speed Limit?

The Texas Senate is considering a similar bill, which would make the state speed limit of the highest in the nation.
The measure of state Rep. Lois Kolkhorst Brenham, which received initial approval Wednesday, is part of a transportation bill larger. Final approval came Thursday.
The bill would authorize the Texas Department of Transportation to raise speed limits in designated lanes or extends to the entire road after engineering studies and traffic. Texas currently has more than miles of interstate highways speed limit are 80 miles per hour.
Critics have raised safety and fuel economy.
