7 Year Old 20 Miles

7 Year Old 20 Miles7 Year Old 20 Miles, I wish someone had been there for a closeup of Michigan police, who chased a car driven erratically for 20 miles only to find that seven years a barefoot boy in pajamas was behind the wheel. Can you imagine? I did not know whether to laugh or mourn. But the details of the story made me a little lump in my throat: Child “stole” her stepfather’s car and took off because he wanted to see his biological father. Awwww. Barefoot and in pajamas, no less! This definitely was not a premeditated act. If you’re wondering what I’m imagining the scenario in your head hits something like this: “I hate not having to listen to you, you is not my real father!” Child runs out of space; take the car keys, and slips out the back door.

Not that the boy’s stepfather is a bad person or anything; I do not know the man. But as a divorced mother, this story makes me grateful that my kids have a great relationship with his father and see him every week, whenever they want. Of course, they have a hangnail, and though they did, they would probably tell you to walk, if I did anything for my son wants to run. (Maybe that’s why they have a stepfather? Hmmm.)

In any case, the back story here has little to do with what I consider to be the most shocking part of the story: a child of 7 years old, was savvy enough to drive a car at 20 miles by itself. How did he even reach the gas pedal? I’m impressed (not that I should be, but I am). At the time I got my license, I was still having trouble backing out of the driveway without scraping against the side of our house, so this guy seems seriously advanced.
