57,500 carats to pounds = 25.3531602
It was mined in Brazil. It’s called the Teodora, meaning Gift of God. Weighing in at 25 pounds, it’s the world’s largest cut emerald.
Jeff Nechka is an appraiser, who couldn’t wait to get his hands on it. He tested it to make sure it was not infused with another rock and to confirm it was a true emerald. He values it at $1.15 million.
There is already a list of buyers lined up to buy the emerald. A private collector from Houston, Texas has offered $1 million for the Teodora. Someone from Dubai wants to cough up the same amount.
The emerald will be auctioned off to the highest bidder in Kelowna, BC on January 28th. The bidding starts at half a million dollars.
