$44 Million Hospital Bill

$44 Million Hospital Bill, Alexis Rodriguez escaped his brush with Pneumonia unscathed thanks to the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center. But he almost died of a heart attack shortly after when he opened his bill. Rodriguez received a $44 million hospital bill in the mail for his short visit to the hospital.
“I almost had an asthma attack.”
Rodriguez is just one of several hundred patients who have received an outrageous bill from the New York City hospital. But Rodriguez didn’t know that the bill was inaccurate at first. He told the NY Daily News that he had received a bill for tens of thousands of dollars in the spring after he spent three weeks in the hospital, again for pneumonia.
When Rodriguez, a doorman who is currently unemployed, disputed the bill he found out that his $44,776,587 bill should have been around $300.
“I think they should have somebody look over the bills before they send them out. I understand manpower may be down, but to send out a lot of bills with numbers that big – someone could have had a heart attack.”
MSNBC reports that the billing errors are the results of a computer mistake. The company that prepares the bill apparently put the invoice number in the place where the bill amount should have gone.
A PHY Services representative said:
“We are sending an apology letter to everyone who received.”
The company said patients should ignore the multi-million dollar bills and that they will send out corrected bills in the near future.
Have you ever received an incorrect bill from the hospital?
