The second generation revived the New Beetle was designed primarily for, and are mainly sold in the U.S. market.
The third generation will go on sale in the U.S. in September or October, VW said in New York, as released on redoing the front of the New York Auto Show, which begins with media day on Wednesday and Thursday.
The manifesto was an hour after the car was shown at the Shanghai Motor Show in China and elsewhere events also scheduled.
VW expects China, Europe, Mexico and the U.S. The main markets for beetle redone to start – and grow quickly to 60 or 70 countries around the world.
The larger, less “cute” and more sporty beetle also intends to draw buyers, more men, wherever they are sold. VW USA Chief Jonathan Browning told the New York event than the previous model, suspended last fall, “has a large contingent of female buyers. We keep buyers and expanded (more) male shoppers” to boost sales.
It is conventional wisdom that in the U.S. market, a car to the bottom if you put an image as a “car of girls.” The conventional wisdom in the auto industry, like it or not, is that – at least in America – you can sell the car girls, but you cannot sell the kids boys girls cars. It’s a bit like a belief also held in the industry that can sell an old car of a young man, but you cannot sell a young man an old man’s car.
The 2012 Beetle is larger by a remarkable amount: 168.4 inches long, up to 6 inches wide INHES 71.2, an increase of 3.3 inches.
VW says the engine range adopted directly from other small VW in the U.S., as the Golf and Jetta, believing that the drivers are competitive and “saves a lot of money” against the new engine design, says Luca de Meo, Head of VW’s global market.
Although the mileage ratings are expected to be as low as 22 miles per gallon in city (31 of the motorway), Meo and Browning said that in the ballpark for cars the size and price of the beetle.
The range of engines:
Base: 2.5-liter five-cylinder gasoline 1.8-liter four off the last model. The engine is rated 170 hp, £ 177-ft of torque. Expected ratings mpg: 22 cities, 31 highway (manual transmission) 22/29 (automatic).
Optional: 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, rated 200 hp, 207 lb / ft Wait ratings mpg: 30 highway, others to be announced.
Coming after an option: 2-liter turbo-diesel, 140 hp, 236 lb / ft Mpg: 29/40/33.
The automaker did not provide prices on the New York presentation, but said the car would remain true to the initial mission that created the original Volkswagen in the 1940 “. Stay within reach of a large part of the population ”
A little confusing, VW also offers the Mini Cooper as a possible rival beetle – and the Mini is not cheap. The base model starts at 20,100 and the line and goes from there. And most of Minis to do, regardless of the model is optioned up much higher than the starting price of the model.
Browning says, however, that the best comparison with the Mini is not a direct competitor prices, but rather to think like a Beetle car with sufficient mystique to draw buyers to dealers as Mini does.
