2012 Spring Hair Trends

2012 Spring Hair Trends, Here are the five trends that we spotted during last night’s Academy Awards red carpet.

The Red Lip

There is something so classic about a red lip on a red carpet that screams Hollywood glam. When paired with a neutral or dark colored dress, the red lip can take a red carpet look from blah to bling. This year E! News host Giulinana Rancic paired a red lip with her beautiful ivory Tony Ward Couture gown for a look that was a red carpet win. Also sporting the red lip was Rooney Mara. This is a perfect example of how a pop of color from a red lip can change the dynamic of a whole look. Other wearers of the red lip on the red carpet included Mila Jovovich and Angelina Jolie.

Black, Red & White

Red, white and blue is a nautical trio saved for the celebration of independence, all the red, black and white gowns served as a celebration of the Oscars last night. Emma Stone, Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman were three fashion trendsetters that pulled from the red spectrum, while Angelina Jolie, Anna Farris and Tina Fey went with timeless black as their color of choice. The ladies in white, however, were the real contenders, rocking the presence of all light in stunning white gowns. Gwyneth Paltrow, Rooney Mara, Giuliana, and Octavia Spencer all successfully rocked the color of the night without looking like reject brides.

Short Haircuts

The Oscars used to be all about the power of the perfect up do, but last night the power of the close-cropped cut was winning. Viola Davis wore her natural hair with a tint of color, Michelle Williams stayed true to her adorable pixie cut and Rooney Mara rocked short bangs with a small bun. The days of extensions on the red carpet may be slipping in to the yester-years.

Long Sleeves

While covering the red carpet for E!, Fashion Police member Kelly Osbourne mentioned that she felt that long sleeved dresses were reserved for older women. After seeing some of the red carpet dresses later in the night we are sure Joan Rivers will prove Kelly wrong. From sheer sleeves to full coverage, Jennifer Lopez, Shailene Woodley and Bérénice Bejo all covered up their arms on the red carpet.

Girlie Pastels

This one may have been a little subtler to notice offhand, but last night Melissa McCarthy, Penelope Cruz, Bérénice Bejo and Kate Mara all donned fairytale colored gowns in pretty pastel pinks, blues and greens. Oscar dresses from the Spring runways predict trends, so take note when you are pulling your spring fashion inspirations!
