2012 PIAA Wrestling Championships

2012 PIAA Wrestling Championships, Jimmy Gulibon cruised Thursday as he started his quest for four straight PIAA wrestling titles.

The piercing sound of an official’s whistle signaled the beginning of the annual prep meet at the Giant Center. Gulibon, a senior from Derry Area High School in Westmoreland County, is one of the top draws. He beat Bethlehem Catholic’s Zane Heller 11-3 at 126 pounds in Class AA.

Gulibon is trying to become just the 10th wrestler to win four crowns since the tournament began in 1938.

If the seeds hold, he might get challenged in the finals Saturday from Schuylkill Valley senior Arty Walsh, who pinned Central Cambria’s Ben Rager in 3:01 in an opening-round match. Walsh won at 112 as a freshman.
