2012 Nissan Versa And Altima Airbag Propellant Recall, Weeks after 2012 Nissan Versa had to go back to the dealerships for repairing the transmissions, the cars are being recalled again, along with the same model year Nissan Altima’s over faulty airbag systems.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives detailed information on its website over the side curtain airbag issue. According to the agency, vehicles may be equipped with side curtain airbags that contain an incorrect propellant mixture for the initiator component used that may result in insufficient output of compressed gas. The recall summary added that as a result the side curtain airbags may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.

As a remedy, Nissan dealers will replace one or both of the side-curtain airbag modules as necessary, without any fee. According to Nissan no other Nissan models are prone to be subjected to this recall. The company quoted the recall as a “supplier error” by Autoliv.

This appears to be the same issue that had resulted into a recall of two Subaru models, the 2012 Subaru Outback and Legacy last week. A total of 976 2012 Nissan Versa and 2012 Nissan Altima are said to be affected by the recall.

The recall is expected to begin from 27th February. The owners of the affected vehicles will be notified states the safety regulator. Meanwhile they may also reach Nissan at 615-725-1000, or contact the NHTSA at 888-327-4236
